A letter to my 32-year-old self

Dear Zipporah,

I wanted to call you by your childhood nickname, Zee Zee; an appeal to the young girl living inside you—her desires, her requests, her feelings.
But you’re no longer that little girl; your 30s have truly ushered you into womanhood.
You have changed, but for the better. Things are evolving. What you once considered important no longer holds the same value. What you used to rush to explore, you now take your time to learn.
The young, fiery woman who used to talk talk talk is finally stopping to listen.
You listen to God to better understand His guidance and His ways.
You listen to others to better understand their perspective and show more empathy.

31 was a very distinctive year.

A lot of curveballs were thrown your way.
Shifts happened that were unexpected, where only God’s hands could keep you leveled.
Some things still have you waiting in line, hoping for your name to be called soon.
However, many things came to fruition that had been years in the making.

Let’s answer the first major life update question: Are you in a relationship?
Nope, you’re still single lol.
But your heart posture concerning the subject has flipped. What was once a season filled with tears now brings you joy. You have come to understand that there is a time for everything under the sun, and God’s timing is truly perfect.
You’re in a different capacity concerning ministry, which wasn’t planned but needed to happen to prune your heart. You continue to enjoy praying for others and have discovered a new joy in Outreach, reminding those who may feel unseen, unheard, and unrelatable that God loves them too.
Your job responsibilities have finally changed after nine years in a stressful position and a six-month unemployment period. Right now, the transition between two jobs is still rough, but you see the light at the end of the tunnel.
You’ve fallen in love with the quietness of your home after overcoming a season of perceived loneliness. There is peace in being still, knowing that although you may be physically alone, you are not lonely because God is right there with you.
You’re still spontaneous; randomly texting people for a quick catch-up and exploring new places around Georgia. However, you also cherish your planned “me time” to recharge.
You’re a published author telling your story about what the Lord has done for you.
You prayed for the ability to show more grace to others, and God has provided numerous opportunities through friends, coworkers, family members, and even strangers.
Your heart is changing to be more loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled.
Your will to keep pressing forward according to what God states is becoming more evident.
Your belief in God to soften your heart still stands firm.

For year 32, I just want you to keep running the race.

Embrace how uniquely and fearfully made you truly are, and also enjoy who God is transforming you to become.

I pray you continue to use your gifts but not idolize them.
I pray you continue to enjoy your current season, without forcing the next to come, but also not resisting it, either.
I pray you submit every assignment to God; short-term and long.
I pray you continue to laugh and giggle.
I pray you stay in the word of God so you can continue to discern His voice.
I pray you continue to get to know yourself; explore your interests and quirks, have honest discussions, and make new friends.
I pray you love God with all your mind, heart, and soul and love others as yourself.
And lastly, I pray that everyone you encounter will stay or become spiritually healthy in Jesus.

I’m not sure what’s ahead, but I am excited for you.

God will order your steps; all you have to do is just follow Him.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen
